LANGUAGE

Language skills helps us to hear certain sounds and words, make sense of what we hear and then helps us to also make the sounds and say the words we heard. Babies use pre-language skills to “talk” by using gestures, facial expressions, imitating a caregiver and making eye-contact. Language is the main way in which we communicate our needs and emotions and is a core foundation of forming relationships and being ready to learn in school and at home.

Cognitive skills are the core skills your brain uses to think, learn and remember. We use our cognitive skills every day while we play and work, at home, at school and in all our daily tasks.

Sensory skills are the skills we use to make sense of what we hear, see, feel, smell and taste. It also helps us to know where our bodies are and what we can do with our bodies.  We use our sensory skills every day while we learn and grow.

Sensory skills are important for many daily activities such as listening, speaking, and learning. It also helps us to know about our bodies like when we are hungry or with potty
training.

FINE MOTOR
SKILLS

Fine motor skills are the abilities to use your small muscles, such as those in your arms, wrists, hands and fingers. You need fine motor skills to button your shirt, tie your shoelaces,
or to eat with a spoon.

Fine motor skills are important for many daily activities, such as eating, writing, playing and learning. They are very important skills to develop in order to be ready for school when the time is right!

GROSS MOTOR
SKILLS

Gross motor skills are the physical skills we need to do  whole body movements. We use the large muscles of the body to perform everyday activities such as sitting, crawling, walking, running and jumping. Gross motor skills helps us learn how to control our body movements. Gross motor skills also help lay the foundation to be able to complete fine motor skills such as drawing writing, pinching or grasping.
